Sign the Petition: Tell Congress to Pass the Paycheck Fairness Act
One of the largest barriers to true gender equality in the U.S. and across the world is pay inequality.
In the U.S., the gap has been persistent and has had enormous ramifications for women’s financial well-being and quality of life.
On average, American women earn 83 cents for every dollar a man makes. These figures are even worse for women of color. Black and Latina women on average earn 64 cents and 57 cents respectively.
Closing the gender wage gap would have immediate economic benefits for women, their families, and the country as a whole. And while several states have taken action to reduce the gap, we know more is needed.
At the federal level, the Paycheck Fairness Act — first introduced in 1997 would end existing loopholes in pay discrimination laws. A majority of Americans agree across party lines that women should be compensated at the same rate as men for the same amount of work.
Our elected leaders should take a hint and finally pass the Paycheck Fairness Act — and we’re building the consensus to make this a reality. Can you sign on to our petition to demand Congress to act and pass the Paycheck Fairness Act?
